Enterprise Architecture

Welcome to our blog. This is an archived post, most of our knowledge and advice remain valid but some material or links may be outdated. Click here to see our most recent posts.

During the Open Group Conference in Cannes I delivered a presentation on “Successfully implementing EA with TOGAF® and ArchiMate®”. Moreover, I joined as expert into a very interesting ‘ask the expert panel session’ with good questions from the audience. This resulted in 6 important questions. In this short blogpost series I will address these questions with some more detail.

Question 3: Can EA and TOGAF be of good value to small businesses?

Many organizations, regardless of their size, face strategic challenges: in order to be successful one has to be agile, find a blue ocean, build a solid platform for execution and so on. Architecture can help, even when the organization is small.

One characteristic of small(er) organizations is an increased focus on pragmatism and getting results quickly. In order to be successful, architecture should make sure that the architecture approach is light weight and flexible. The TOGAF framework can be of huge help here (see also the first posting in this series): the framework has a lot to offer in terms of tools, techniques, and best practices. This means that architects don’t have to reinvent the wheel and can focus on supporting projects.
